Analysis of Cover Artwork Part 3
This next cover is for the single "Yeah Buddy", the third single to be taken off the debute album. Once again it has a heavey feature on the skull theme the band uses. with all the members pictured here wearing skull masks and one of them holding a giant skull. This one also again uses the wavy text seen in previous covers but is a lot thinner this time and thiso ne also features the in-verted cross symbol, something else that is featured in a lot of the bands covers and images, another part of their iconography.
These are the single covers for "I Punched a Lion in the Throat", the fourth single off the debute album. Once again it is following the tradition of skulls and the similar text used in the otehr ones. What made this single unique from the rest was the band put on the web site that the first 250 pre-orders would be different hand drawen covers by the band, making those first few unique for the people who are huge fans.

Analysis of Cover Artwork Part 2
This next cover is for a live EP the band released for Record Day in 2010, called "Live at Leeds", the hometown of the band. The cover is a blatant, reference to The Who's famous live album also titled "Live at Leeds", which features the exact same album cover, font and lay out, with the only difference being that it's Pulled Apart By Horses name, instead of The Who and the font colour. This was obviously a deliberate move, by the band, fitting with the humour they use and also and a possible tribute to the band, it is also fitting due ot it is the bands home town. Pictured below is "The Who : Live at Leeds" album cover for comparison.
Analysis of Cover Artwork Part 1
These next couple of Blogs are a look at some of the different cover artwork (singles, EP's and LP's), from Pulled Apart By Horses back catalogue.
This is the single cover for "Back to the F**k Yeah" one of the bands first proper major single releases and the first single taken from their debute album. The cover follows a very typical look and style that the band use for everything on their designs, from covers all the way to merchandice. The skull pictured in it, is a sort of imagery that is associated to the band quite a lot, due to how heavily it is featured in the bands designs. The font that is used is also featured a lot on the bands dfifferent designs, here it looks quite similar to that of the font used in old horror movie posters from the 1930-40's, maybe fitting in to the bands sort of hardcore element they have and also very fitting to teh style of humour the band have.
This next cover, is for the single "High Five, Swan Dive, Nose Dive", the second single to be taken off the debute album. This cover is fairly simple, with the defining feature being being the patch on the person backed, pictured in the cover. That patch was given away for free to anyone who pre-ordered the single off the bands website and was designed by the group as well, as most of the artwork and designs are created by the group, mainly by frontman Tom Hudson. As you can see it features the band the font thats used a lot by the band, the sort of bold wavy letters, and also features what appears to be a skeleton like person/creature playing guitar. Also the bands own skull logo and can be pictured creeping out of eitehr side of the picture.

Band Profile - Pulled Apart by Horses
Here is a profile of the band that I have chosen for my project (hopefully - still waiting on an E-Mail back!), which also ties in with my research.
Leeds which was also where they performed their first secret show to a full house of attendees who had been invited by text message on 13 February 2008. After a slot at Manfest 2008 alongside band friends "That F*****g Tank" they soon began to get good press, gig offers and a quickly growing fan base. They also began to be known for their very frantic live performances in which bandmates have been known to get injured. On 17 May 2008, they headlined Nastyfest IX in Leeds to a packed audience of onlookers where a chaotic and injury stricken performance took place involving members of the band being sent to hospital. Their music is a combination of heavy riff based guitar work infused with disco licks and pounding drum rhythms. The band's debut single, 'Meat Balloon', was released via Big Scary Monsters Recording Company in October 2008. It debuted at #18 on the UK Indie Singles chart. The limited edition 7" single came with a free CD and comic, created by the bands singer, Tom Hudson. In January 2009 PABH released their single 'I Punched A Lion In The Throat' on 7", with b-side 'The Crapsons'. The song was also made available as a free download on the bands official website. Soon after that the band released the 'Tour Traxx EP'. On 21 March, Transgressive Records announced the release of a strictly limited 12" vinyl release titled 'Live At Leeds' to be released on Record Store Day 17 April in the UK. The record would appear to borrow the idea from The Who classic album with artwork and packaging being similar. Their eponymous debut album was released on 21 June 2010, and the band were personally invited by Muse to support them on their UK tour.

Asking Permission
Yesterday I sent out an E-Mail to the band I want to use for the project. The band I want to use is Pulled Apart by Horses, they are quite a recent band and have been around for about the last 3 or 4 years, and they are a real favourite band of mine and I just have lots of ideas involving their music and image, hence why I would really like to use them and their songs. They are still quite an independant band but are getting quite big and noticed a lot more, they have been featured in many different magazine artilces, there debute album came out last year and was met with amazing reviews and have quite a big reputation as a live band, due to their wild shows. Despite them being independant, I have still sent them an E-Mail asking if I can use their songs and the band for the project, due to I'm not sure what things will be like with copyright issues, as they arnt on a big record label ( as far as I know), and they do a lot of their band work themselves, so it's more of just a precaution. I didn't get a reply yesterday and I'm not sure if I have one today as the schools VLE is down and thats what I have used to E-Mail them. So until I hear back from them I'm just going to carry on with the research task, mentioned in the last blog, and fingers crossed I will at least get a reply.
Research Task
So the first task in the project is to compile researchinto the project we have chosen. So I need to create an in-depth study of a selection of music videos, associated designs and associated products. So for this, (which I have already started), I'm going to compose a profile of the band I'm doing, anaylse some of their music videos, anaylse their album and single artworks, as well as look at other bands that fit into the genres of music the band do. I'm currently working on a profile of the band to stick up on the blog, which will then be followed up by the different analysis's for the videos and artworks, as well as try and find magazine adverts, as well as maybe a few articles as well and of course looks into the other bands as well.

Starting A2 - Music Project
This offically marks the start of the new project and the start of A2. The project for this year is that their was a choice of 3 different briefs, a music video, a trailer and a short film. Out of the 3 I have chosen to do the music video, due to the fact I'am a huge music fan and have numerous ideas for a music video, also serveral ideas for the other areas of the project such as the digipack (designing of a whole CD including it's cover, booklet and inlay), the website or the magzine article. I have a band in mind and hopefully when I get in touch they will sya it's fine but I hace a couple of back up options as well just incase.
